What is the right age to start with the instrument?
You can start learning at an age of 8 to 9 years.
What do I need at home?
Preferably a combo amp (practicing is more fun then), which is already suitable for rehearsing, smaller locations etc..
What do I need to bring to my lessons?
Your electric bass guitar and tuition material by agreement.
Does the instrument come in different sizes?
The electric bass comes in two different sizes. The smaller size (short scale), however, is less popular due to sound-related reasons.

What do I have to consider upon purchase?
You should seek the advice of your bass instructor first.

In General:
The electric bass is a stringed instrument. As opposed to the electric guitar , the electric bass usually has only four strings which are, like the strings of the double bass(contrabass) tuned to (E - A - D – G). They correspond to the four bass strings of the guitar, only one whole octave lower

In addition there are electric basses with five strings, usually with an additional lower B string, and basses with six strings prevalently tuned B -, E - A - D - G – c, like guitar only one octave lower, or in an alternative tuning. Just like with every other stringed instrument constructions with an “exotic” number of strings are being produced, e.g. 2-stringed, 3-stringed, 7-stringed, etc.

Another design consideration for the bass is whether to use frets on the fingerboard. The fretless base is soundwise closer to the acoustic double bass.
