In General:
The flugelhorn s a soprano instrument and belongs to the saxhorn family. As far as tuning and construction is concerned, it can be compared with the trumpet. Varying from the trumpet, however, it has a, for the most part, conical bore and is also played with a more conical mouthpiece instead of a cup mouthpiece. Due to its conical bore it is harder than it is with the trumpet to incorporate a tuning slide. Usually this is done via a clamped slide directly after the mouthpiece. The sound of the flugelhorn is mellower than that of the trumpet.
