Before the actual guitar lessons comes the choice of the right instrument:
Are you interested in flamenco or classical guitar? Western or electric guitar? What is your personal role model when thinking of playing the guitar?
With the guitar the choice for the right instrument often seems especially difficult to us due to the confusingly wide range of brands. In addition, it is often hard to tell what style or sound you are really interested in before having had any experience as a player. And when it comes to style, sound, tone ect., the guitar indeed has an incredibly wide range of facets and where someone might prefer the the acoustic guitar, someone else might instantly fall in love with the electric guitar. These days, you quite often come across promising special offers with guitars sold for twenty bucks, however, it makes us wonder how these companies can come up with such ridiculously low prices and if these guitars are even worth it.
Our advice would be to wait until you have completed the trial lessons, since we will gladly help you with your choice and we can also provide you with the necessary information on music stores in the area around Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Ludwigshafen, along with the appropriate contact persons in the stores.
In the scope of our educational concept we have numerous musical styles that we introduce to our students and work through.
The styles include rock 'n' roll, pop music, blues, classical music, flamenco, jazz, fusion, latin music, raggae, salsa etc.
Usually our students tell us beforehand what topics they are especially interested in and we work through and practice the pieces that are associated with these topics. We consider it especially important to address our students' wishes and interests instead of following a strict and linear curriculum.
We pay as much attention to your personal skills as we do to your personal musical deficits (e.g. technique, rhythmics, ear training, etc.) and we try to eradicate the latter.
During the first guitar lessons the main topics are usually correct body and hand posture, open chords, different stroke patterns, use of the plectrum, reading of notes and tablatures. Also, quite early our students practice easy pieces which encourages them to develop all their technical and musical skills. For us, musicality always has the top priority.
As the right age to start with playing the guitar we recommend an age of five, six, or seven years, for exceptionally gifted children maybe even a little earlier. Of course, we also give lessons to adults – everybody is welcome to learn an instrument.
We also coach advanced guitarists who despite playing for several years have been stuck at some point. We will help you overcome your difficulties and have you once again advance beyond your current skill level. We offer preparatory classes for the entrance exams to the Pop Academy and music colleges and deal with every subject in guitar music.
For all our guitar students we have the opportunity to participate in our guitar ensemble.
