An instrument is a resonating body,
that produces sounds when operated in a certain way.
The type of sound differs, depending on the resonating medium. Practice is obligatory.
Since there are different instruments and different types of learners we offer a whole variety of classes and instructional formats.
Depending on your personal preferences (feel, sound, acoustics, tradition) and other empiric criteria you can pick your instrument from basically five categories.
There are:
- Plucked string instruments, usually subcategorized into lutes, zithers, and harps
- Bowed string instruments with different types of strings (resonating strings, drone strings, one string violin)
- Wind instruments that generate a vibrating air column via a mouthpiece, a bag, or a bellows
- Keyboard instruments – their volume can be varied through pedals or registers
- Percussion instruments, subcategorized into idiophones and membranophones
For further details such as the right age to start or the purchase costs of a certain instrument read our instrument pages.
